Joshua White

Joshua T. White became Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA) in January 2026.

Prior to becoming SEC Chief Economist, Dr. White was the acting chief economist at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Before joining the PCAOB, Dr. White was assistant professor of finance at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. He also previously worked as an assistant professor of finance at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and as a financial economist at the SEC.

Dr. White has published extensively on issues related to corporate finance and corporate governance. He holds a BS, MBA, and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business, where he is a past recipient of the Outstanding Ph.D. Alumnus Award.
