Compliance with EDGAR Next Now Required to File on EDGAR

Sept. 15, 2025

Compliance with EDGAR Next—the Securities and Exchange Commission’s security, access, and account management improvements to its Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system—is now required to file on EDGAR. To be in compliance, filers must be enrolled in EDGAR Next or have been granted access to EDGAR on or after March 24, 2025.

As of today, under EDGAR Next,

  • Access to all three EDGAR filing websites (EDGAR Filer Management, EDGAR Online Forms and EDGAR Filing) requires presentation of Login.gov individual account credentials and completion of multifactor authentication.
  • To file and take actions on the filer’s EDGAR account, individuals must additionally have permissions for the filer as a user or account administrator.
  • The CIK and CCC remain codes required to file on EDGAR. Legacy EDGAR passwords and PMACs have been discontinued.
  • Optional Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are available to filers for machine-to-machine interaction with EDGAR.

Filers that have not yet enrolled in EDGAR Next or been granted access to EDGAR on or after March 24, 2025 must enroll to be able to file on EDGAR. Enrollment remains open until December 19, 2025.

“EDGAR Next modernizes EDGAR access and account management and improves the security of the system for filers and the Commission. The addition of APIs gives filers a more efficient method of interacting with EDGAR,” said Jed Hickman, Director, EDGAR Business Office. “We thank filers for their cooperation in achieving these improvements and look forward to making continued enhancements to EDGAR in the future.”
